January 5

First day of class! Introduction to class rules and requirements; sign up for the class blog space; introduce people.emich.edu and SFTP software; introduce "Krause's How to HTML" web site. HOMEWORK: Reading and work on the "basic HTML" part of the professional/personal web site, due by next week's class.

January 12

Discuss (on the blog and in class) "A Little History of the World Wide Web," Vannevar Bush's "As We May Think," and the Wikipedia entry about Vannevar Bush. In-class work on "basic HTML" part of the professional/personal web site; some more "advance" raw HTML activities. Introduction to basic graphic manipulation with PhotoShop. HOMEWORK: Reading, post Phase I of the professional/personal web site, and email me a link to your web site.

January 19

Discuss (on the blog and in class) "General Graphics Tutorial: Understanding Image Formats" and "Photoshop Tutorial: 10 Useful Tips for Beginners," both of which are on ELATED. More readings TBA. Phase I of professional/personal web site due! In-class work on basic graphic manipulation with PhotoShop continued. Discuss "free" HTML editing options. Introduction to basic DreamWeaver skills.

January 26

Discuss (on the blog and in class) Meyer's Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide, Read chapters 1 and 2; browse through chapter 7. In-class work and activities on Cascading Style Sheets. print into web assignment introduced.
